Guyana Service Members Nabbed In Robbery, Murder

CaribWorldNews, GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Mon. Aug. 24, 2009: Guyana President Bharrat Jagdeo has dubbed as `deplorable,` the arrest of three Coast Guard officers and two policemen in connection to a robbery and murder.

Police allege the service members were arrested in connection with the abduction, murder and robbery of a young Bartica gold dealer. Dweive Ramdass` body was found Friday in the Essequibo River.

Police say the man was carrying the Guyana equivalent of US $85,000 to the gold-mining township of Bartica to transact business when he was abducted on Thursday.

Chief of Staff of the Guyana Defence Force, Commodore Gary Best, said a full enquiry has been launched. President Jagdeo called the alleged act `reprehensible.`
